Southern California Veterans- Fitness for Veterans

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Today I was sitting here tying to get through to the Loma Linda VA Medical Center when I started leafing through my copy of Veterans’ Health Today, a publication put out by the Department of Veterans Affairs.  I was on hold (aren’t we always) when I noticed an ad titled: 24 Hour Fitness for Veterans from the Winter 2009 magazine.

Apparently the VA has made an arrangement with 24 Hour Fitness Centers/Clubs to  provide Veterans and their families with discounted Membership rates starting at $19.99 a month.

I went online to check it out, and there are a few Clubs in either direction of my house, so several opportunites to take advantage of this special.  If you  live in So. Cal call 1-800-224-0240 or go online to 24 Fitness.com and enter code: 100825

California finally has a Budget!

Friday, February 20th, 2009

As a Californian I cannot believe we finally have a budget, more than 100 days late.  We have been  hearing about layoffs, office closings, tax rebates put on hold, and everything else that came with not having a Budget.  California has a reputation, at least in my opinion, of not getting the Budget passed on time, and there’s always an excuse.  Me, I’m sick of it.  I’m sick of waiting for that 1 vote.

Governor Schwarzenegger took his message to the Internet and Social Media Sites like Twitter as well as making a widget that showed how many days the state went without a budget. Just like President Obama used the Internet, our Governor used it effectively to inform us what was going on, and finally yesterday I broke my own rules for not getting involved in Politics, and wrote how disgusted I was with this whole mess. I wanted that last vote NOW!  There were probably a lot of others like me that were tired of this mess, and made our voices heard through Twitter.  Well last night, Thursday February 19th, we finally got a California Budget passed, now we just need it signed.

I would like to thank Sen. Abel Maldonado,  the Republican that finally stepped up to the plate and gave us the one vote we needed to save thousands of jobs, and put our great state back on tract.  I do thank the Senator, but I am still disgusted this took so long.  Next time I think instead of cutting our pay, we should cut theirs!

Foreclosures in California: Beware of Scam Artists

Friday, February 6th, 2009

California has been one of the hardest hit States for Foreclosures, and this means more people are looking for help to save their homes.  Because of this there are a lot of Scam Artists that are trying to make a quick buck.

Beware of anyone that wants you to pay them “upfront” for any type of Loan Modification.
The current economic situation in the Country has caused many people to lose their jobs, and without jobs people can’t pay for their homes.
Lenders, and Lawmakers have finally figured out that it is cheaper to help you keep your home than for you to lose it.
In California the law says that a house that goes into Foreclosure starts with the filing of a Notice of Default. This is filed with the County Clerk, and from that day you have 90 days plus 21 to redeem you home.  It is best to call your Lender, or an Attorney to try to work something out.  However the Government has FREE or very low cost Counseling Agencies that can help you understand your rights, and help you with negotiations.

To get a list of HUD approved Home Counseling Agencies that are near you

call 1-800-569-4287.

The main thing is not to avoid the call, no matter what your situation is.  The longer you wait, the harder it will be to save your house…..so call now, either to the Lender, Attorney, or to the HUD approved Agency near you.  And above all DO NOT pay anyone in advance that says they can help you.
