Blog Action Day-Health, HIV/AIDS and Poverty
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008Poverty affects many aspects of life, and one of the areas is Health Care. We all heard about the Children of Romania in 1990 that had been abandoned, and now is this being repeated in other Countries? Here is another Article called The Faces of Poverty that show some of these children.
Romania had a law that Women were to have at least 4 children, whether you could afford them or not. If you couldn’t afford the child you could leave him/her with the State who would take care of them for you. But it wasn’t until after Romania’s Dictator Ceasceau was executed that Romanians and the World saw the deplorable conditions that these children were living in.
Handicapped Children had the worst conditions, and at the time little was known about HIV/AIDS and these children were separated and lived in horrible conditions, worse than the poorest person in any village. Although we learned about the abandoned orphans not everyone heard about the Children affected with the HIV Virus.
